Description

Magnolia Cottage and Oak Lea Cottage are a 16th and 17th century group of buildings of rendered cob construction with a thatched roof, forming an L-shaped plan. The main section of the house has two storeys and three windows, with a lower 19th-century extension featuring a single window. A south wing is set lower than the main block, featuring one window and two storeys. Modern windows are now in place throughout, with the upper floor windows located under a thatched eyebrow. A later gabled porch and rear extensions have been added. The interior originally comprised a cross passage, and the building is now divided into two separate houses along this passage. A central chimney stack is present. On the ground floor, there are five-inch by six-inch chamfered beams without stops. The roof structure features arch-braced collar trusses. The walls are approximately two feet thick. Within the south wing, there are four-inch chamfered and stopped beams, again with walls approximately two feet thick.
