Description
This is a terrace of ten cottages located on Higher Strand in Hugh Town. They were built in the early to mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed of coursed granite rubble, with gabled slate roofs, except for the roof of number 1 which is slurried. Granite ridge and end stacks are present. The buildings follow a double-depth plan. The terrace is two storeys high.
The design is symmetrical, with a three-window range to numbers 1 and 2, 5, 6, and 7, each featuring a central entrance. Numbers 3 and 4 have a two-window and one-window range respectively, with entrances on the left-hand side. Numbers 8 to 10 are taller and were built later, sharing a three-window range on the first floor. All cottages have granite lintels above 20th-century doors, and late 19th to 20th-century horned sash windows with two panes per sash. Number 3 has a late 19th-century four-panelled door with a glazed top light, and number 6 features a mid-19th-century four-panelled door with a glazed top light. The interiors were noted, but not inspected; they contain moulded joists.
