Description
Nos. 2 and 3 The Common, formerly the Fox Inn, are two attached cottages dating from the mid-19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. The cottages have rubble-stone walls and a slate roof featuring gable ends, stone gable-copings, and moulded kneeler-blocks. There are stone stacks on the left side, a ridge stack located right of center, and another stack behind the ridge. The buildings are 1 and a half storeys tall and have a total of four windows. No. 2 features one, two, and three-light hollow chamfered stone mullions with iron casements that have diamond-leaded lights. No. 3 has two-light mullions of the same design, but with 20th-century metal casements. Both cottages have separate, returned labels above the windows. Gabled dormers with original 2-light mullions and labels are present at each end of the facade. The door for No. 2 is a 19th-century plank door with a separate label above it, while No. 3 has a door at the right end that is a 20th-century plank and glazed design, also with a separate label above. The rear wall features triangular gablets with 2-light casements.
