Description
The Ashmore War Memorial is a First World War memorial, constructed in 1923, with a later addition commemorating the Second World War. It is prominently positioned in the village, opposite the pond. The memorial is made of stone and comprises a tall, chamfered Latin cross set upon a plinth with chamfered top and base, and a three-stepped octagonal base. The front face of the plinth bears a stone panel with a dedicatory inscription, reading "FOR GOD, KING, AND COUNTRY/ TO THE/ SACRED MEMORY/ OF THE ASHMORE MEN/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN/ THE GREAT WAR./ (NAMES)/ 1939 1945/ (NAME)". The upper portion of the inscription is flanked by the years 1914 and 1918. The other three sides of the plinth feature horizontal bands of ashlar stone combined with flint. The memorial is surrounded by low wooden posts linked by chains.
