Description
Sundial is a building located on Marine Parade, constructed in 1903 by architect Arnold Mitchell. It stands four storeys tall and features two window bays. The exterior is made of blue lias rubble with contrasting stone dressings. At the top, there is a parapet with a moulded string at its base.
On the third floor, there are two 2-light mullioned windows. The second floor has a 2-light mullioned window on the left and a 4-light splayed bay window on the right, which extends down through all storeys to the ground floor. A sundial is built into the wall between the first and ground floors. On the first floor, there is another 2-light mullioned window, and on the ground floor, a square-headed doorway with a studded door. Eight steps lead up to the doorway from a two-centred entrance in a stone rubble wall that marks the boundary between the forecourt and Marine Parade.
Sundial is part of a group that includes Nos 4 to 6 (consecutive), along with Nos 6A, 7, 8, 8A, 9, 11, and 12.
