Description
The Conservative Club, located at No. 90 Cheap Street, is a three-storey building with a two-bay plastered front, dating from the 16th or early 17th century, and has been restored. It features a stone plinth, and the second floor oversails, showcasing two four-light oak mullioned and transomed windows. The first floor includes two five-light splayed oriel windows, with the left-hand one supported by a new splayed stone bay at ground floor level. The entrance is modern, made of stone, and features a four-centred arch with a three-light window. The building has a modern tiled roof. Inside, there is enclosed timber-framing and a notable re-set overmantel dated 1658. The Conservative Club is part of a group that includes No. 88, The Conduit, No. 90, Saints John Building, Bow House, The Cemetery Gate, The Abbey Gate House, and other premises occupied by Gilham Bros on Church Lane.
