Description

The Abbey Gate House, located on Church Lane, dates back to 1625 and is now home to the Sherborne Museum. The east wall is believed to include a section of the medieval precinct wall from the nearby monastery that once connected to the Cemetery Gate. The building features a two-storey stone front with an attic, two windows, a tiled roof, and a stone stack. It has stone mullioned windows and gables above the attic windows. The entrance boasts a Tudor-style doorway with a cambered head. The Abbey Gate House is part of an important group of buildings that includes Bow House, The Cemetery Gate, No 2 (occupied by Gilham Bros), No 3 (also occupied by Gilham Bros), as well as No 88, The Conduit, No 90, and Saints John Building (The Parade) on Cheap Street.
