Description

The Cemetery Gate, formerly known as Abbey Gateway, is a Grade I listed structure located on the south side of Church Lane, dating back to the 15th century. This impressive gate features a high, four-centred moulded archway that spans the lane. To the left, there is a buttress with three offsets. Above the arch, remnants of three niches can be seen, with one niche still displaying a crocketed head and pinnacles. Additionally, iron hooks for gate butts are still present. The Cemetery Gate is part of a group that includes Bow House, No 2 and No 3 occupied by Gilham Bros, as well as No 88, The Conduit, No 90, and Saints John Building (The Parade) on Cheap Street.
