Description
No 89, known as Midland Bank, and No 91 are located on Cheap Street and date back to 1625, with a façade likely from the early 19th century. The building is two stories high with a five-window painted stone front. The roof and dormers are modern. The first-floor sash windows feature segmental heads and keystones, although the glazing bars have been altered. Above the ground floor, there is a continuous projecting hood supported by paired brackets, along with a bracket eaves cornice.
To the left, No 89 has a bank front, while to the right, No 91 has a modern plate-glass shop front; this was previously an open butcher's shop with brass rails for hanging meat and a gateway to the right. In the center, there is a round-headed doorway with a painted stone flat archivolt, a projecting keystone, and imposts. The fanlight above the door has Gothic glazing bars. Inside the vestibule, there is another doorway with a semi-circular fanlight featuring tracery, fluted imposts, and a glazed door that has Gothic glazing in the upper part and two fielded panels at the base. Additionally, there is a round-headed arch in the passage behind.
Nos 89 to 93 form a group with the adjoining premises occupied by Johnsons in South Street.
