Description
Regent House, located at No 9 South Street, is a building likely constructed in 1838 and designed by James Wilson of Bath, who also designed the nearby Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. It is symmetrically positioned with No 11 across the chapel forecourt. The building is made of stucco and features a hipped slate roof. It stands three storeys tall, with its elevation facing the chapel forecourt displaying three ranges of sash windows (some of which are blind) topped with moulded cornices on consoles. There is also a panelled door situated in a central porch, which has a moulded architrave and Ionic columns in antis. Additionally, there is one range of sash windows facing South Street. Regent House, along with Nos 3 to 9 (odd), which houses the Bridport Arts Centre, and Nos 11 to 17 (odd), including 17B and 17A, forms a group with the Greyhound Hotel on East Street.
