Description
Orchards is a single house dating from around the mid-18th century. It features red brick walls in English bond, decorated with open lozenge and heart motifs made from burnt headers. The roof is thatched with gable ends, and there are original brick stacks at the left and right gables. The house has two storeys and three windows, which are wooden casements with two lights and horizontal glazing bars. The windows have gauged brick heads with projecting stone keys and wooden cills. The front door, located at the centre, is a six-panelled design with the top two panels made of glass, also from the 18th century. There is a porch with a glass-panelled door and side windows, topped with a hipped thatch roof added in the 20th century. The house stands on a rubble-stone base. There is an extension at the right-hand end made of brick with a slate roof, dating from around 1900, and a bayed-out extension at the northwest corner, also from around 1900.
