Description
The lych gate to the new cemetery, which was formerly the entrance to the kitchen garden of Moreton House, dates from around 1800 and was rebuilt on a new site around 1950. It features four Ionic columns that support a timber canopy with a pediment and a moulded entablature. The pediment is adorned with carved swags. Inside the structure, modern stone walls contain panels from the Obelisk, which was erected in 1781 by Captain John Houlton in memory of James Frampton. The inscriptions on the panels are in both English and Latin.
