Description
Glebe House, formerly known as the Rectory, was built around 1750 and enlarged at the rear in the 19th century. The building features a brick wall that is rendered, a tiled roof with stone eaves courses, and rendered stacks. The later rear extensions have roofs that are part slate and part tiled. It stands two storeys high with attics.
The main south front showcases a moulded timber eaves cornice, while the other facades display brick dentil courses. On the south front, there are two 19th-century canted bay windows on the ground floor, each with glazed doors and fixed side-lights. The central window is a double-hung sash with an arched head and keystone, featuring glazing bars that replace the original floor. The first floor has five similar windows. In the attic, there are two pedimented dormers with casements that also have glazing bars.
The west elevation includes an entrance door set in a trellised porch with a lead flat roof. This elevation has a ground floor canted bay with double-hung sashes and a first floor with one double-hung sash window featuring glazing bars. Inside, one ground floor room has a cornice with egg-and-tongue moulding, and there is a cut string staircase from the 18th century with turned balusters and spandril brackets. The first floor landing has an acanthus leaf cornice, and several 18th-century doors with raised panels can be found throughout. The first floor ceiling features chamfered beams. In the attic, there is a cupboard made from 17th-century panelling, complete with ornamental hinges, likely salvaged from an earlier house. A brick boundary wall runs along the road.
