Description
Braeside Spring Cottages, located on Uplyme Road, date from the 18th to 19th century and consist of two storeys with colourwashed fronts and slate roofs. Braeside is situated at the southern end of the cottages. The garden front of Braeside features one dormer and a moulded eaves cornice that extends around the front gable end. On the first floor, there are two widely spaced sash windows with intact glazing bars. The ground floor includes a bay window on the left and a casement window with margin lights on the right. The gable end facing the road has a later three-light splayed bay on both floors, with sash windows. To the right, there is a panelled door within a wood trellis porch with a gable, and further to the right, a recessed bay with sash windows on both floors.
No 1 Spring Cottage has three-light splayed bay windows on each floor flanking a central doorway, with sash windows. It also features a trellis porch with a gable and a modern door. No 2 Spring Cottage includes a four-panelled door within a gabled porch at the left end, and to the right, a splayed three-light oriel bay window with sash windows and glazing bars on the first floor, supported by metal columns. On the ground floor, there is a sash window that is four panes wide. Additionally, a later lean-to addition at the right end has a splayed three-light bay window. A spring or well is still present on the property.
