Description
Bloxworth Lodge, which includes the stables and coach house ranges to the east, is a detached house that was formerly a rectory. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and was enlarged later in the 19th century. The building features brick walls, some of which are plastered and colorwashed, and has slate roofs. The original section has a pyramidal roof with a central stack and is two storeys high. The entrance front showcases a portico with free-standing Tuscan columns and a flat entablature, along with a panelled door. There is one double-hung sash window on the ground floor and two on the first floor. The garden front has plastered walls and a parapet with a moulded cornice, a plat band at first floor level, four double-hung sash windows on the ground floor, and three similar windows on the first floor. The late 19th-century range on the north side has a gabled slate roof and features a lead pump on the east wall, dated GP 1825. Inside, some contemporary joinery and fittings remain.
The attached stable and coach house range to the east is now partly residential and partly used as a cider house. It has an L-shaped plan with plastered walls on a brick base, a hipped slate roof, and brick stacks. This structure is also two storeys high and includes some plain ledged and some stable doors, as well as horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars on both floors.
