Description

The Drax Arms is a public house with origins dating back to the 18th century, which underwent alterations in the mid-19th century. It features roughcast walls with smooth plastered quoins and a tiled roof that is half-hipped at the west end. There are roughcast stacks, one at the east gable and another rising from the front eaves. The building has two storeys and an attic.

On the ground floor, there is a part-glazed door beneath a gabled hood supported by brackets, and another similar door under a flat hood that extends over an adjoining canted bay window. This bay window, along with another similar bay, has double-hung sashes. Additionally, there is a three-light double-hung sash window. The first floor contains three double-hung sash windows, while the attic features a hipped dormer with casement windows.

At the west end, there is a projecting rear wing made of brick, partially plastered, with a tiled roof. At the east end, a 19th-century single-storey projecting rear wing made of brick and tile connects the main block to a former stable from the same period. This stable is constructed of brick with a slate roof and has one storey and an attic, featuring a plain ledged door with a loft door above it, under a gabled dormer. The building is included for its group value.
