Description
Old Manor Farmhouse is a building with origins in the 16th century, which has been altered and partially rebuilt in the 17th century, and enlarged in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features brick walls with stone details, while the north gable is timber framed. The roof is tiled with stone eaves courses, and there are brick stacks with oversailing courses. The original layout has a three-room lobby entrance plan, with the entrance located opposite the stack between the parlour and hall, and service rooms to the north of the hall.
At the rear, there is an 18th-century kitchen wing adjacent to the service rooms. Along the north walls of the kitchen and service rooms, there are single-storey, slate-roofed lean-tos from the 19th century. In the early 19th century, the central stack was altered, and a semi-circular stair was added in the entrance lobby. A passage was also created at the north end of the hall, leading from a new door in the main (east) front to the kitchen at the back. During this time, the service rooms were modified, and a second stair was added.
The main elevation features a classical-style entrance door in its original position. The parlour and hall each have an ovolo-section stone mullioned window, originally with five lights but reduced to four. There is a later timber casement window in the service room, along with a later door nearby. First-floor windows are similar, but those in the solar and hall chamber have always had four lights. The front elevation displays a diaper pattern in the brickwork. The 18th-century kitchen wing has timber casement windows. Inside, there are some chamfered ceiling beams and a notable early 19th-century semi-circular stair. This building is an early example of brickwork in the area and was originally moated, with part of the moat still surviving.
