Description

A pair of early to mid-19th century houses located at the end of a row in Weymouth. The houses are constructed of painted brick, with some areas rendered, and have a slate roof. They are three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and each house has a single window. Each house features a 20th-century dormer and three-storey canted oriels with plain sash windows. A small, modillion cornice runs along the top floor, while lower floors have plain cornices. The canted oriels are supported by short cast-iron columns and are set back from the wall. Casement windows are located at pavement level. The front doors are centered and accessed via a flight of five stone steps with nosings. Number 1 has a 20th-century door beneath a bricked-in fanlight, while Number 2 retains an earlier panelled door with reeded pilasters and an arched head, set under a radial fanlight. A blocking course and parapet are present, and there are stacks to each gable end. The rendered return gable to South Parade contains a four-pane sash window above a 20th-century door and surround, approached by two steps. The rear elevation features two large dormers and various other windows. The interior has not been inspected. The pair of houses are visually significant within the view down Clarence Buildings, along the Esplanade.
