Description
The Thatched House is a detached house located in Stoke Abbott, dating from the 17th century with significant alterations made in the early 19th century. The building features rendered stone walls that are incised to resemble coursing and is topped with a thatched roof that is hipped at both ends. There are two stacks: one at the left-hand eaves, which is rendered, and another brick stack located to the left of the center. The house has one and a half to two storeys and includes five windows, which are two-light wooden casements with marginal glazing and wooden cills. There is also a single-lighter window from the early 20th century. The front door, positioned to the right of center, has four recessed panels and two top lights, dating from the 19th century. It features an elliptical fanlight with glazing bars and is framed by moulded architraves and reveals with reeding on the door lintel. Inside, there is a deep-chamfered ceiling beam in the room on the right.
