Description
Cedar Cottage is a 17th-century building located on the north side of West Street in Shapwick. It features plastered walls and a thatched roof, with brick stacks, including a central stack adorned with brick pilasters. The cottage has a three-room lobby entrance plan and stands two storeys high with attics. A plastered porch with a gabled tiled roof leads to a part-glazed door. Both the ground and first floors have three casement windows with glazing bars. At the rear, there is a single-storey brick lean-to with a slate roof. Inside, the fireplaces in the central stack are now blocked, and the ground floor rooms have deeply chamfered ceiling beams. On the first floor at the rear, there is one original window featuring ovolo moulded mullions, along with a slightly later window that has square section mullions and lead lights.
