Description

Old Timbers is a 17th-century building located on the south side of High Street in Shapwick. It features plastered walls resting on a brick base and is topped with a thatched roof and brick stacks. The building is one storey high with attics. The entrance includes a ledged door with a glass panel set within a timbered thatched porch. On the ground floor, there are two casement windows with glazing bars, while the attic contains two dormers with similar casements. At the rear, there is a modern single-storey porch with brick walls and a thatched roof. Inside, one of the ground floor rooms boasts a large open fireplace with a cambered oak lintel and a bread oven, which has since been built up. Both ground floor rooms feature deeply chamfered ceiling beams.
