Description

Ashdown Cottage is a 17th-century house located on the south side of High Street in Hinton Waldrist. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, painted white, and features a thatched roof with brick stacks. It has a two-unit plan and is one storey high with an attic, presenting a two-window range. The windows have timber lintels and are fitted with 20th-century casements, including those in the half-dormers. The gabled roof has gable end stacks, and there is a timber lintel above a 20th-century door located in the left gable wall, which is adjacent to a projecting bread oven. A late 20th-century porch has been added. Inside, the cottage is noted for its chamfered beams and a bressumer over the open fireplace on the ground floor.
