Description
No. 198 on West Street is a late 16th to early 17th century building. Its walls are partly timber-framed with brick infilling and partly made of brick. The roof is thatched and features a brick stack. The building has an L-shaped plan consisting of a hall and a cross-wing, and it is one storey high with attics. There is a modern glazed porch with a part-glazed door. On the ground floor, there is one casement window in the hall, and in the attic, there is another casement window in the cross-wing. Inside, the hall has deeply chamfered ceiling beams and a large open fireplace, which is partly blocked. This house may have originally been designed as an open-hall building.
