Description

This is a row of late 18th or early 19th century terraced cottages in North Allington, with some later additions, notably numbers 31 and 35. The cottages are built of red brick with pitched slate roofs. The properties at numbers 27, 29, 41 and 43 have attics, and these have coped gables and dormers with casements, numbers 43 and 45 having glazed cheeks to the dormers. Windows at numbers 27, 29, 37, 39, 41, 43, 45 and 47 have modern casements, while numbers 29, 31, 33 and 35 retain original sash windows. Numbers 49 and 51 have contemporary casements with glazing bars. The cottages at numbers 27, 29, 45, 47, 49 and 51 have doors with blind, semi-circular fanlights; numbers 33 and 35 have doors with glazed semi-circular fanlights, and number 31 has an oblong fanlight. Numbers 29 and 35 feature doors with two moulded, round-headed panels. Number 33 has a six-panelled door, and numbers 49 and 51 have flush panelled doors, while the remaining doors are modern. Numbers 27 to 51 (odd) are considered a group.
