Description

St Swithun's Church Hall, dating from the mid-19th century, was originally a school. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features a pitched slate roof with coped gable ends supported by kneelers. The building is a single storey with a U-shaped plan and a projecting porch in the north wing. It has grouped lancet windows with two and three lights, each with single chamfers. The slightly projecting chimney breast adds to its architectural interest. There are two planked doors with ornamental hinges set in chamfered pointed arches. The former playground wall is also made of hammer-dressed stone, topped with ashlar coping. It has piers at either end with pyramidal caps and a raised centre that features an arched entrance with iron gates.
