Description

This is a house, likely dating from the early 17th century, with a 19th-century facade and subsequent alterations. The front of the building is constructed of squared and coursed rubble, featuring a tiled gable end roof and brick dressings. It has two storeys and a five-window frontage. The house follows a cross-passage plan, with a large stone chimney stack positioned behind the cross passage. Originally, what were likely service rooms are located to the right. A projecting stone stair tower with a newel staircase is situated to the rear, opposite the stack. On the first floor of the stack, remnants of a four-centred head fireplace can be seen. A 19th-century stable wing extends to the rear, still retaining many original features. The building is listed primarily for its remaining early internal features, rather than its facade. The group value of this building lies in its contribution to the streetscape and understanding of local history.
