Description

The War Memorial, located on the west side of South Street, dates from around 1920 and is constructed of ashlar stone. It features a wall that breaks back to enclose an obelisk with a moulded plinth. The memorial is adorned with crocketed pinnacles at the corners and has a gabled top. There is a niche that contains a figure of St George and the Dragon. At the north end, a rusticated and vermiculated pier from a former church wall has been incorporated into the design. The War Memorial is part of a group that includes the Parish Church of St Mary, the churchyard walls, and the wall to the Vicarage Garden.
