Description
42 and 44 Cheap Street are an 18th and early 19th century building, likely incorporating earlier timber-framed elements, possibly sharing a similar design with numbers 38 and 46. The building is two storeys high and has four window bays. Number 42 has a plain tile roof with a 19th-century dormer, while number 44 has a stone slate roof. A moulded stone corbel is visible at the right-hand end, indicating a previous oversailing timber-framed upper storey that has since been replaced with stone. The upper floor features three-light casement windows. The lower floor incorporates various windows, three shop fronts, and two doorways. Panelled doors are located within the building.
The building is part of a group that includes numbers 2 to 30 (even) and 34 to 50 (even).
