Description
36 and 38 Cheap Street is a late medieval timber-framed building with a later timber-framed wing at the rear. It has two storeys, with the upper storey overhanging and featuring a plaster finish on the timber framing. The ground floor is supported by four moulded posts with curved braces, and there is a moulded stone corbel at the left end. The roof is modern and covered with tiles. The upper floor has later casement windows and updated eaves. The ground floor, made of painted stone, includes two shop windows, one of which is a splayed bay, and a central six-fielded panelled door in a frame. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 2 to 30 (even) and Nos 34 to 50 (even).
