Description
No 33, No 33A (Hawkhurst), No 35, No 35A (Chesterfield House), and No 37 are located on Cheap Street and date from around 1625, with front facades from the 18th century or early 19th century that have been significantly altered. No 33 and No 33A are two storeys high with an attic and feature two window bays. They have a pantile roof, a boxed dormer, a parapet, and a moulded cornice. The first-floor windows are set in reveals and do not have glazing bars. There is a plate-glass shop front on the left side of the ground floor, topped with an entablature. To the right, there is an early 19th-century doorway leading to Hawkhurst, which includes fluted pilasters and angle roundels, enriched panelled reveals, and a half-glazed door with two flush panels below.
Nos 35, 35A, and 37 are from the later 19th century, also two storeys high, with four window bays. They have a slate gabled roof and a painted brick front, featuring an eaves band. The upper storey has four segmental-headed windows with keystones and no glazing bars. There is an elliptical-headed carriageway with rusticated voussoirs at the left end, leading to double ledged doors. A modern plate glass shop front spans the ground floor on the right side.
Nos 29 to 53 (odd) and No 53A form a group.
