Description
This is a Georgian house, built in 1843 on the site of a demolished 15th-century inn known as the New Inn. It is one of four three-story, two-window terrace houses with stone ashlar facades. The building is set back from Cobblers. It has a slate gabled roof and features flat giant quoin pilasters, along with a moulded stone eaves cornice. The sash windows are framed by moulded architraves; the first-floor windows have stone balconies with unusual iron balustrades. The doorway has a moulded architrave topped by a cornice resting on console brackets.
The boundary railings between Cobblers and No 4 Greenhill Court date to the 19th century. These railings feature uprights that alternate between straight and looped at the top, in pairs, with finials. Lower uprights also have spear-headed finials. The railings to Greenhill have rails that are looped in pairs, alternating with shorter rails that rise to a lower rail, supported by square standards at intervals, and adorned with fleur-de-lys finials.
This building is part of a group value context including all listed properties on the North Side of Greenhill from Newell Cottage to Belmont, and on the South Side from Delta to the premises occupied by Godden and Curtis.
