Description

Bradford Abbas Mill is a mill-house with an attached outbuilding, dating from the 17th century, with the upper part rebuilt in the 18th century. The building features coursed rubble-stone walls, with the upper section constructed in brick. It has a plain clay-tile roof with gable ends that have stone gable copings. There are 20th-century brick stacks located at the gable ends and on the ridge to the right of center. The structure is two storeys high, with attics, and has eight windows on the upper storey. The ground floor has three-light metal casements, while the first floor features two-light wooden casements with glazing bars and wooden cills. The front doorway, positioned to the left of center, is framed by a stone architrave, and the door itself has six fielded panels from the 20th century. Stone brackets support a flat stone canopy above the doorway. Inside, there is exposed timber-framing. The return range to the north has rubble-stone walls and double Roman-tile roofs, with stone gable coping at the north end. This one-storey section includes plank doors at the left-hand end, a fixed window in the center, a stable door, and a garage door.
