Description

The Manor House is believed to have originated in the 15th or 16th century. The visible front of the house largely dates to the early or mid-19th century and was constructed in the Gothic Revival style, although the central oriel window may retain some original fabric. The front façade is two storeys high with three windows and is built of stone, featuring two gables and a carved parapet. It has four-light stone mullioned windows with cusped heads to the lights; the central first-floor window is an oriel. A doorway is flanked by a four-centred arch and carved spandrels. The east side of the house has two large, splayed bays with French windows. A simpler, L-shaped wing extends from the rear. Internally, the house contains interesting early Gothic Revival woodwork. The house is part of a group that also includes No 31 Newland, the east range of Sherborne House, the front and rear garden walls of Sherborne House, No 41 The Manor House, three cottages adjacent to The Manor House, two cottages adjoining, Nos 57 to 93 (odd) and the north-east boundary wall to Newland Close.
