Description

New Close Farmhouse is a late 18th century and mid 19th century farmhouse, now functioning as a house, located on Westhill Road in Wyke Regis. The exterior features rubble walling facing the street, with rendered surfaces on the south and east sides, and a slate roof. The house consists of two parts, surrounded by a tall boundary wall that has a quadrant corner, which may originate from an earlier building or be designed as a folly, similar to Wyke Castle nearby.

The front of the house, which is rendered, is divided into two sections, each two storeys high, with 4-pane sash windows. The left section is a low, one-window area with a mansard front slope that includes a half-dormer with an arched top, situated above a sash window flanked by doors on either side. The right section has a higher eaves and a hipped roof, featuring a two-window range with upper sashes that have arched heads. The return gable end displays one arched sash window, a door, and a narrow gabled garage range. There is a small brick chimney stack on the left gable of the main range and another stack on the lower range at the outer wall.

The boundary wall includes a series of small square openings with flush stone lintels above deep-set wood casements. One of these openings faces north, located to the right of a stone-cheeked porch that has a stone umbrella-hood with a finial, above a plank door, with a later casement window to its left. At the corner, the wall rises to a full two-storey height, topped with a stone coping and featuring five scattered small openings, a two-light casement, and a blocked door. The right end of the wall is finished with dressed quoins and then descends to a lower boundary wall. The interior of the farmhouse has not been inspected.
