Description
Burgundy House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house, dating from the mid-18th century and 19th century. The building is rendered and features slate roofs. It has a complex layout that appears to have started as a simple block with a steep pitched roof, which is now complemented by a tall gabled range, with hipped ends added later. A late 20th-century garage has been constructed to the right of the entrance.
The street-facing side of the house has two storeys and an attic, with a total of four windows on the upper floor and three on the lower. There is a central hipped dormer with two lights above three 4-pane sash windows, and a large hipped porch from the 20th century flanked by additional 4-pane sashes. To the left, the added hipped section features very narrow and tall windows at each level, while to the right, a wide addition includes garage doors set under an arch. The original gables are coped and have large rendered chimney stacks.
On the south end, there are two large arched openings on the first floor above a flat-roofed extension with arched lights. The plain north end has a brick and slate outbuilding attached at an angle. The west side, which is away from the road, has a gabled range with two storeys and a steep roof, featuring two wide-spaced arched 2-light casements and one small window above a glazed conservatory, along with additional 2 and 1-light casements. Behind this, there are two flat-roofed dormers in the rear slope of the front range. In the re-entrant angle between the ranges, there are two small sections with a Diocletian lunette window above an arched sash.
A notable feature of the property is the boundary wall, which runs the full width of the front and is made of coursed rubble, approximately 1.6 meters high. The wall is raised in brickwork for about 15 meters at the south end and returns across the south boundary for approximately 6 meters.
