Description

This barn, located about 400 metres south of Manor Farm, dates from the early 19th century. It features an elm timber-frame construction clad in vertical boarding, with parts covered in corrugated sheet steel. The lower west side is supported on staddle-stones, and the roof is made of corrugated sheet steel with half-hipped ends.

The barn has a rectangular 8-bay frame, with the lower west side resting on staddle-stones. There is a later 19th-century waterwheel pit on the west side. The building is single-storey, and the cladding obscures openings on the east side. The north end has double doors on the left and a smaller door on the right, both made of planks. The west side has a later opening in the centre for a shaft to a missing waterwheel, with remnants of its brick and flint pit, including the head and tailrace.

Inside, the barn has a small scanding 8-bay frame. The wall-posts feature integral shaped brackets that support arch-braces leading to collar-trusses with king-posts above, all bolted together without carpentry joints. The purlins, principal rafters, and common rafters are intact. The wall framing consists of rails and cross-bracing, with long studs applied to the exterior. On the east side, there are blocked double doors in the second bay from the north end and a loft doorway in the sixth bay from the north end. Additionally, a hole has been made in the centre of the west side for later machinery.
