Description

The obelisk on Weatherbury Castle is a Grade II listed structure erected in 1761 by Edmund Morton Pleydell. It is made of brick with ashlar dressings. The base features a rectangular plinth with stone quoins and a moulded capping. The shaft is a tapering square that culminates in a splayed stone cap topped with a bowl finial. The plinth is inscribed with "EMP 1761." This obelisk is located in the center of Weatherbury Castle, which is a scheduled Ancient Monument, although the obelisk itself is not included in the scheduling.
