Description

CORFE CASTLE ENCOMBE SY 94 78 9/90 Temple 50m south-west of Encombe House GV II Garden pavilion. Late C18 - early C19. Ashlar stone walls, slate roof with pedimented gables. In 2 sections. Section facing east has pedimented gable with moulded cornice, supported on 4 Tuscan columns. Raised on a flight of stone steps with simple stone-balustrade walls. Section facing west, now used as garage has plastered pedimented gable with a semi-circular opening, supported on 3 Ionic columns. From the centre of each flank wall a plastered wing wall with stone coping, swept up to the temple building. (RCHM, Monument 11 Dorset. Vol. II).
