Description

The cottages at 23 and 24 West Street, Abbotsbury, date from the 18th century and were later altered in the 20th century. They are attached and originally stood on the east corner of what was then Coward's Lane. The cottages have shallow rubble-stone walls with a thatched roof, featuring a gable end facing the street. 19th-century brick stacks are located at the right-hand gable and at what was formerly a gable end, now the ridge. The cottages are one and a half storeys high, with two windows visible from the street, and two further 20th-century windows in the attached north range. The windows are 20th-century wooden casements; those at No. 23 have two lights, while the windows at No. 24 also have glazing bars. A small, rectangular window is placed to the right of the main window, and there are single-light casements with glazing bars in the gable end, all dating from the 20th century. The front door at No. 23 is plank and 20th century, set within a shallow wooden porch with a gabled canopy. The front door at No. 24 is a 19th-century plank door with a single-light, wooden lintel above.
