Description
James Lears Farmhouse is a farmhouse with an attached cottage, dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. The building features painted rubble walls, stone quoins, and brick dressings, topped with a thatch roof. There are two renewed brick stacks, one at each gable end. The layout suggests it may have originally been a longhouse, with the eaves and roof pitch raised in the 18th century. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three windows with wooden casements that include glazing bars. At the front, there is an outshut with a concrete pantile roof, and the rear elevation has 20th-century metal-framed windows. Inside, there are plank doors, but the interior has otherwise been refurbished.
