Description
Higher Hewood Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse featuring rubble walls with stone quoins and dressings, topped by a thatched roof. The gable copings date from the 17th century. The building has two storeys and includes five to six windows with stone mullions that have cavetto moulds, as well as wooden casements. There are two doors with canopies: one is a plank door with a single window light, and the other is a panelled door with two lights. The left door leads into the original cross-passage.
Inside, there is a large open fireplace with a straight-chamfered wooden lintel, and a wooden spiral staircase of 16th-century origin located beside the fireplace. This staircase leads to a solar that features a stone fireplace with a Tudor arch and a straight-chamfered design.
