Description
Two Slade Monuments are located in the churchyard, 4 metres north of the porch of the Church of St Mary in Batcombe. The first monument is an early 19th century table-tomb made of white limestone, featuring plain sides, fluted pilasters, and a plain top block. It commemorates Paul Slade, who died on 26 February 1811, and also mentions his grandson, Paul Slade Dunning. The second monument is made of stone, with fielded-panel sides and corner pilasters, topped with a hipped block that has a moulded cornice. It bears an inscription dated 1760 for Boded Slade and a later inscription in memory of William Slade, who died on 31 May 1821.
