Description
Romford Mill Cottage is a detached cottage that likely dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. The main walls are made of brick, but the right gable features timber framing with brick infill, suggesting that the brick may be a rebuild of the original timber-framed structure. There is evidence that the roof has been raised. The cottage has a tiled roof with a crested ridge and a brick stack at the left end, and it stands two storeys tall. A plat band runs at the first floor level. The entrance features a part-glazed door set in an open timber porch with a shallow gabled roof. Both the ground and first floors have two plain casement windows, with the ground floor windows located under segmental arches. There is a lean-to extension at the right end, constructed with part brick and part timber framing, topped with a corrugated roof. A small weatherboarded lean-to is located at the left end, also with a corrugated roof. Inside, the main ground floor room includes an open fireplace with a timber lintel and deep chamfered ceiling beams.
