Description

The Engine House is a former engine house, now used as a store, dating from around 1842. It features brick walls that are plastered and has an asbestos slate roof with a crow-stepped gable. The building is single-storey and positioned at right angles to the quay. In the center of the gable, there is a pair of ledged doors, flanked by a window with glazing bars on each side, all under a continuous hoodmould. Above the door, there is a carved coat of arms.

On either side of the building, there are wing walls that connect it to Carpenter's Cottage on the left and Quay Cottages on the right. Each of these wing walls has a crow-stepped gable in the center, featuring a carved shield, and large openings with timber gates below the gables. The Engine House is part of an important group of buildings on the harbour frontage and is a National Trust property.
