Description

East Cottage and West Cottage are a pair of cottages that were formerly a school and school house, dating from the early to mid-19th century. They feature brick walls, some of which are plastered, and have a slate roof with battlemented gables and brick end stacks. The cottages are two storeys high.

East Cottage has a central battlemented porch and on the ground floor, it has two canted timber bay windows with glazing bars. The first floor features a sash window with glazing bars, flanked by 20th-century casement windows, likely replacing original sashes. The cottage also has a shallow central gable with a moulded bargeboard.

West Cottage, located on the left, has a flat roof with a battlemented parapet. Its ground floor also has two bay windows similar to those of East Cottage. The first floor has two small segmental-headed windows with glazing bars. Together, these cottages form an important group on the harbour frontage and are a National Trust property.
