Description
Mason's Cottage is a building of probable 16th century origin located on the north side of Abbott Street in Pamphill. It features timber-framed walls that are partially plastered and have been cased or rebuilt in brick, topped with a thatched roof and a central brick stack. The cottage has a two-room lobby entrance plan and is one storey with an attic. There is a single-storey extension on the east side with brick walls and a thatched roof.
The front elevation is a mix of brick and pebble-dash, featuring a part-glazed door. On the ground floor, there are two casement windows with horizontal glazing bars, while the attic includes two dormers with similar casements. The rear elevation is timber-framed with brick infill and has a ledged door. The ground floor at the rear has three casement windows with horizontal glazing bars, and the attic has one similar window located under the eaves.
Internally, the main ground floor rooms are characterized by deeply chamfered ceiling beams and large fireplaces, which have been partially built up.
