Description
Manor Cottage is a late 16th century to early 17th century building located in Pamphill. The walls are part timber-framed with brick infill, part cob, and part brick. It features a thatched roof and a brick stack, with the north gable wall recently rebuilt. Originally, it was a two-room cottage with an open hall that included a smoke-bay and service rooms with a loft above. In the late 17th to 18th century, the hall was floored over and a chimney was inserted into the smoke-bay. The cottage is one storey with an attic and has a late single-storey lean-to on the west side, which has brick walls, part plastered, under a thatched catslide roof. The main east elevation includes a ledged door and two casement windows with glazing bars. Inside, the fireplace has been largely reconstructed, but the old lintol has been reused. The main ground floor room features exposed chamfered ceiling beams that are not framed into the main structure. There are timber-framed partitions with wattle and daub infill on both the ground floor and attic.
