Description
Decoy House is a detached cottage dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It features brick walls and a thatched roof with brick parapets on the west gable, along with brick stacks. The building is one storey high with attics. On the ground floor, there is a central casement window with glazing bars that has replaced the original door, flanked by two 20th-century metal windows. The attic includes two dormers with casement windows that also have glazing bars. There is a single-storey wing from the 19th century on the west side, constructed of brick with a slate roof, which contains two ledged doors, two casement windows with glazing bars, and one 20th-century metal window. Inside, the main ground floor room features a large open fireplace with a timber lintel. This cottage may have served as the Decoy Keeper's residence. The Decoy Pond located to the south of the cottage was created around 1634, as noted in the diary of William Whiteway.
