Description

The Stile House Hotel dates from the early to mid-19th century. It is a three-storey building with a stuccoed front elevation. The left-hand end features a two-light casement window on the second floor, and sash windows with glazing bars on the first and ground floors. The second bay has a two-light casement on the second floor and a sash window on the first floor. The ground floor includes a six-panelled door (with the two middle panels glazed) set within a wooden trellised porch, alongside a three-light sash window and a half-glazed door also within a wooden trellised porch. The right-hand end of the building projects forward to form a bow, featuring sash windows with glazing bars on each floor. The hotel forms a group of buildings with Nos 1 and 2 Pound Street, the Peek Memorial Chapel, Hotel Alexandra, Nos 1 and 2 Alexandra Cottage, Nos 5 and 6 St Michael’s Hotel, and the Shamien Hotel, Pound Street.
