Description
Bartholomews is a detached cottage located in Corfe Castle, originally dated to 1677 as indicated on the porch. The building has undergone alterations and enlargements around 1920 and again in 1975. It features rubble stone walls and a stone slate roof, with stone stacks placed irregularly along the ridge. The cottage has an informal L-shaped plan, comprising part two-storeys and part one storey with an attic.
The original section, located at the left end of the main range, is one storey with an attic and includes a gabled porch with a ledged door set in a 4-centred arched opening. The ground floor has two casement windows with horizontal glazing bars, while the attic features two hipped dormers with similar casements. To the right, a former barn was raised to two storeys and incorporated into the house around 1920, which includes two ledged doors and one casement with glazing bars on the ground floor, along with two similar casements on the first floor.
At the right end, a projecting gabled wing was added around 1975, constructed to match the original style. Inside the original block, the main ground floor room boasts a large open fireplace with a curved timber lintel and some re-used moulded jamb stones.
